Garlic always fresh and intact for 1 year: only cooks know this trick in the kitchen

  • Fresh garlic bulbs
  • Small glass jars with lids
  • Olive oil (optional)
  • Salt (optional)

  1. Start by selecting fresh garlic bulbs. Ensure they are free from any mold or soft spots. You can use as many bulbs as you like; just make sure they are in good condition.
  2. Carefully separate the cloves from the bulbs. You can leave the cloves unpeeled; there’s no need to remove the skin.
  3. If you’d like, you can add some flavor to your preserved garlic. For this, you can sprinkle a pinch of salt over the cloves or even infuse them with olive oil. These are optional steps but can enhance the flavor.
  4. Place the garlic cloves into clean, dry glass jars. Leave some space at the top to allow for expansion.
  5. Seal the jars tightly with their lids.
  6. Now, here’s the secret trick: Store the sealed jars in a cool, dark place. Ideally, you should aim for temperatures between 55°F and 65°F (13°C to 18°C). This is the key to preserving garlic for an extended period.
  7. Check the garlic cloves periodically to ensure they remain fresh. If you notice any signs of sprouting or mold, remove those cloves immediately to prevent them from affecting the rest.
  8. When you’re ready to use the preserved garlic, simply remove the desired number of cloves from the jar. They should still be fresh and flavorful.

  • It’s important to keep the jars sealed tightly to prevent air and moisture from getting in, as these can lead to spoilage.
  • Remember that adding olive oil can impart a delicious garlic-infused oil, perfect for cooking and salad dressings.
  • Properly stored, your preserved garlic can stay fresh for up to a year, allowing you to enjoy the benefits of this versatile ingredient year-round.
